CELLAR CONVERSIONS

We have converted cellars with water running into them and around them. We have dug out cellars which were already flooded and converted them into dry warm comfortable living spaces.

For this type of conversion we usually use Type C waterproofing. Cavity drainage systems and sub floor periphery drainage leading to specialist sumps and pumps.

We carry out the calculations to install pumps which will cope with the worst possible case flooding scenario.

We set our sumps and pumps at a level so that they only operate when they have to and do not alter the existing water table height unless flooding is constant.

We design our drainage so it is accessible for inspection and cleaning.

NEW BUILD WATERPROOFING

New build waterproofing design has in the past normally been carried out by building professionals with no specific training or expertise in waterproofing. Waterproofing has then been installed by site staff with no experience with the materials or specialist techniques needed for correct installation. With the very large number of failures and the rise in claims against contractors, designers and insurance companies most building professionals now prefer to give the responsibility for new build waterproofing to the specialists such as ourselves.

Cellar-tech have the specific expertise for waterproofing design in any situation and our fully employed and trained staff have the on-site skills and experience to install the system as designed. Because of our expertise and qualifications we are able to offer guarantees on the work that are acceptable to NHBC, ZURICH and to potential purchasers and home owners.

STRUCTURAL WATERPROOFING

Structural waterproofing is carried out in excavations to protect the structure from the outside (primary waterproofing). Using products such as, Procure or Pre prufe by Grace Products. Normally married up with Cavity Drainage on the inside.

Or alternatively it can be internal Type A structural waterproofing (Tanking) using Sika Renders, Vandex, Thoro seal or SBR renders.

Cellar-tech are experienced with all of the systems and will use them when and where they are appropriate.

Cellar-tech have carried out numerous roof waterproofing contracts on roof decks also lift pits, retaining walls, vaults and car parks in London (where drainage was not possible) and most recently toilet block roofs for English Heritage at Stonehenge.

REMEDIAL WATERPROOFING

It is not at all uncommon for waterproofing systems to fail. A large number of the cellars/ basements that we are called upon to waterproof have been waterproofed with some form of tanking in the past (by other companies). Trying to repair a failed tanking system is in our experience normally a waste of time. Replacement with a drained system is the only guaranteed cure and generally the least expensive and certainly the least disruptive.

FLOOD CONTROL

Like King Kanute we are unable to hold back the tide. However we can deal with springs under floors and flooding through walls and a degree of flooding through doors. We can help with the design of external flood control measures and we work closely with Geo Technical Engineers to design drainage systems. We have access to flood defence systems and take a holistic look at the whole problem and recommend the best form of flood defence.
